Robotics League

Kahoolal’s teams of 4 students get together to tackle the FIRST Lego League annual challenge, and to compete in local qualifiers. A complete and well -rounded program, we work with the teams to make sure their first FLL experience is a pleasant one.

The program is a Project-Based Learning experience, that encompasses 4 aspects:

Robot Game – A representation of important aspects of the topic being explored on the research side of the program using LEGO models, each mission represents a challenge for the robot to complete. The team will develop a robot that can complete as many missions as possible in a limited time (usually 2.5 minutes).

Core Values – The cornerstone of the FLL program, the team will work hard in understanding the importance of teamwork, Gracious Professionalism ® and Coopertition ®

®
participants learn that friendly competition and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping one another is the foundation of teamwork. – See more at: http://www.firstlegoleague.org/mission/corevalues#sthash.ODj7JP2b.dpuf

Robot Design – each team will be judged based on the durability and mechanization of its robot, as well as by the quality of its programming, and its game strategy and innovation, among other rubrics.

Research – Through research, and with the guidance of a mentor, the team will take a deep dive into the annual topic, will find a problem and propose a solution. But that’s not all… they will have to share their solution with people who are affected by the problem to get feedback and will have to make sure their solution is doable and realistic.
